We are calling for a moratorium on data center construction in the city of Tukwila.

Large-scale AI data centers drive up the cost of living for residents already struggling in one of the most expensive regions of the country - raising utility rates, straining electric grids, and polluting the environment.

On June 9, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed a one-year moratorium on large data centers. Other cities around the country are pausing to study the impacts before allowing this industry to proceed. Tukwila should do the same.

Tukwila is unfortunately already in the crosshairs. Prologis, one of the world's largest industrial real estate companies and an aggressive data center developer, has multiple properties in Tukwila and has been actively exploring data center siting in the South King County region. Puget Sound Energy, which serves Tukwila, has proposed a nearly 30% rate increase over the next three years — and data center expansion will only add more pressure on the grid. We cannot wait until permits are filed to act.

Please pass a moratorium on new data centers.
