Our community showed up and spoke at Surprise City Council on April 4th, to demand the city immediately cut ties with the Five-Eight Group and disgraced prosecutor April Sponsel.

During the 2020 uprising for Black lives, April Sponsel led a multi-agency conspiracy to politically prosecute people for protesting police brutality. She colluded with Phoenix Police to bring false charges against hundreds of protesters, charging 39 with serious felonies, and 17 were slapped with criminal street gang charges for simply wearing black clothing and carrying umbrellas. Sponsel weaponized the law to jail, intimidate, & silence MCAO’s critics, so our movement forced her out of her job.

Yet even after relaying all of the details of April Sponsel’s misconduct as a prosecutor at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and explaining why she is the last person that should be teaching court testimony to cops, Surprise City Council has still refused to do what is right.

Send a letter to city officials demanding they take responsibility by cutting ties with Five-Eight group and under no circumstances allow April Sponsel to conduct any trainings.
