No Time for Delays: We Need FAMLI Leave
The passage of the Time to Care Act in 2022 was a historic victory, granting paid family and medical leave to Maryland workers and their families. Implementation of the state's paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program was supposed to begin July 2025 for contribution collection, so that in July 2026 workers would be eligible for benefits. Unfortunately, late last week Governor Moore announced the Administration's intention to seek an additional 18-month delay in implementing the FAMLI program. Life’s joys and tragedies don’t wait, and it's a broken promise to ask hardworking Marylanders to delay their ability to care for themselves and their families. This delay would be the third major delay since the Time to Care Act passed in 2022, and the new proposed delay means Maryland workers won’t be able to access paid leave benefits until 2028, nearly six years after the bill was passed.
Maryland families need the certainty of this law – that workers can take protected and paid time when it is most needed to care for themselves or a loved one. Join us in expressing your strong support for the current implementation timeline for the FAMLI Program by emailing your legislators and urging them to reject any further delays to the implementation of paid family and medical leave in Maryland.
