Send a letter to Boulder Councilmembers: No Wage Cuts

The City of Boulder is currently attempting to pass a wage cut for tipped workers at food and beverage businesses. They're planning to modify the sub-minimum wage by decreasing the planned base pay adjustments that employers owe their workers. They know this is an unpopular decision, which is why they are rushing to pass it before Boulder residents know what they're doing.

[If you are not a Boulder resident, please send this pre-made Allies letter instead]

They have (conveniently) reset their summer meetings to exclude public comment, and are conducting decision-making processes for this wage cut before receiving community input. They don't want this discussion to occur near their reelection, which is why they're trying to sweep it under the rug right now.

We can prevent them from cutting wages by returning to the same methods we used to push the City Council to increase wages previously. We organize & mobilize our community until our collective voice is loud enough to force them to back down. We need your help whether you've got 5 minutes or more. Your family, friends & neighbors all deserve a living wage, and collectively we can make sure that happens.

Tipping was a system of pay "invented" during the Jim Crow era, and it is still an inherently racist and systemic form of oppression. The state law doesn't allow us to make it less than $3.02, but paying our workers as little as the legal limit allows is just bad business, in addition to being nowhere near a livable wage.

Please take a quick moment to read and sign our letter!
