Tell the FTC: Stand with workers! Maintain the non-compete ban!
Last year, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), under Lina Khan’s leadership, passed a rule protecting workers from overzealous bosses who force them to sign lengthy non-compete agreements that trap people in their jobs.
This sounds technical, but it’s pretty simple: Non-compete clauses make it harder to move on from a job that underpays or mistreats you, by allowing your former employer to sue you if you go to work for another company in the same industry. When considering the rule, the FTC estimated that banning non-compete contracts would open new job opportunities for 30 million Americans and raise wages by $300 billion per year.
But after the FTC finalized its ban, a corporate-friendly judge blocked it from taking effect, and now the FTC is weighing whether to stand with workers and maintain the rule, or with corporate bosses and repeal it. We’ve been told that the FTC will decide which way to go in the next month -- so now is the time to make your voices heard to protect workers!
