The Buncombe County Commission will be discussing their Affordable Housing Services Program this week, which envisions support for 2950 affordable rentals or homeownership opportunities. We’re troubled by how little of this housing targets those earning less than 50% of Area Median Income, which includes most Black and Latine folks in our community. The lack of deeply affordable housing is driving these folks out of the County, and if we’re serious about addressing that trend, we need a more robust strategy.
