NYIC Management: Respect Your Workers' Rights, Stop Union Busting, and Recognize Our Union Now!
NYIC Management Delays Voluntary Recognition, Files Federal Labor Petition with Trump Administration at 26 Federal Plaza Despite Supermajority of Support from Workers
As workers at the NYIC who have been fighting the atrocities of the Trump Administration and ICE’s presence at 26 Federal Plaza, we are deeply disturbed by NYIC Management’s decision to put workers, many of whom are immigrants, at severe risk by filing for a federal labor election, which triggers an automatic hearing at 26 Federal Plaza.
We are shocked that NYIC Management would be comfortable with turning to the Trump Administration who stands in opposition to every facet of our core mission.
We want to be explicitly clear to our supporters, elected officials, and union siblings following our campaign: we see this action as contrary to Management’s commitment to good faith. On June 9th, 2026, we delivered a letter demanding voluntary recognition, listing the names of a supermajority of 70% of eligible employees who have chosen to form a union, with over 82% of eligible staff also signed on union-cards.
NYIC Management could have honored their commitments of solidarity to the core values of the immigrant rights and labor movement by granting us recognition on that same day. Delaying this process and now putting workers in direct harm at the hands of the very same federal administration we have been fighting every day sets a dangerous precedent.
Demands:
1. Voluntarily recognize our union and all 50 workers who should be in it without any further delay and let the real bargaining begin.
2. Drop the RM Petition with the NLRB so that workers do not have to go to 26 Federal Plaza for an NLRB hearing.
3. Kick out the Trump Administration from our negotiation which can continue in good faith between workers and Management if our demands are met.
As supporters of NYIC United, we ask NYIC Management: are we as an organization truly committed to the mission we fight for?
