Ohioans Deserve Safety - mass surveillance isn't safety
Flock Safety installs and supports fixed automated license plate readers (ALPRs) to track and surveil cars.
Before the Flock cameras were installed, community members and others raised concerns about increased surveillance being used against our immigrant neighbors; they were dismissed and told such searches would not be possible. Dayton, Kettering and other jurisdictions have recently acknowledged their Flock cameras were being accessed for immigration searches thousands of times.
Police in some jurisdictions have lied about the reason for accessing ALPR info, or provided no reason whatsoever for their searches. Law enforcement agents have been found to use the cameras to stalk and harass individuals. Flock stores the data and has allowed access to data by Department of Homeland Security. These cameras don't make our communities, schools or parks safer, it does make it easier for vulnerable members of our communities to be targeted.
