Open Letter to PPS on Their Silence on The Genocide in Palestine

It has been 118 days since PPS initially sent out an email regarding the genocide unfolding in Palestine. In that email, the district made no mention of what generations of Palestinians have been experiencing for nearly 100 years. The district continues to remain silent, while also silencing the voices of teachers, school workers, students and families standing in solidarity with Palestine.

We are demanding that the district stand behind their own words, "We believe in the fundamental right to human dignity and that generating an equitable world requires an educational system that intentionally disrupts—and builds leaders to disrupt— systems of oppression", and do more for their Palestinian, Southwest Asian, and North African (SWANA) families and community members.

We ask you to join us in writing to members of the Portland Public Schools board of education, Racial Equity and Social Justice committee, as well as the Superintendent and members of the Superintendent Leadership Team to express your concerns regarding PPS' biased treatment and stance.

PPS' original statement and only letter to families can be found out at: rb.gy/bpr0x2

Below you will find an email that you are welcome to use as is, but can be personalized.
