OPEN THE LIBRARIES NYC

LAST YEAR, MAYOR ERIC ADAMS CLOSED THE LIBRARIES ON SUNDAYS.

NOW, HE'S CLOSING THEM ON SATURDAYS TOO!

OPEN THE NYC LIBRARIES!

TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES THAT THE MAYOR'S ACTIONS ARE UNACCEPTABLE AND ROLL BACK HIS PROPOSED 58.3 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET CUT, WHICH GOES THROUGH ON JULY 1ST

Libraries are the only truly public civic institutions left in New York. They're a free and open space in a crowded city, where everyone is welcome. And now, they're under threat.

For New York City students in particular, this is an enormous loss. Students from every background get to use free computers and wifi at the library, which they may not have at home. They meet with tutors for no cost and take language courses. The library is a safe place to do homework, read research materials and apply for jobs. But it's also a crucial place for New York City students to hang out in person, rather than online—one of the ONLY free spaces still available to teenagers in the city.

Mayor Adams has been blaming his cuts to public services on people seeking asylum, citing a budget “crisis” of his own manufacturing. It's a bogus argument, an excuse to expand police funding, rather than supporting crucial New York City infrastructure. Libraries are a key element that makes this city a beautiful place to live: Families go there together; unemployed people can apply for jobs; low-income families get help signing up for SNAP benefits. Library workers fill in when other social services have been cut, acting as a crucial connection to government and benefits while also fulfilling their mission of education. For a decade, they've been starved of funds, forced to cut services on every level.

IT'S A CRIME TO STARVE THE LIBRARIES OF FUNDING.

DON'T LET MAYOR ADAMS GET AWAY WITH IT.
