Oppose Congressional Action to Suppress Voters
In the final weeks before its summer recess, some members of Congress are making a last ditch effort to remake our elections and suppress voting ahead of the 2026 midterms. Last week, the House passed a $95 billion budget reconciliation package that included a $10 billion fund aimed at incentivizing states to adopt voting restrictions. The House also recently combined the Voter ID Act with an insider trading bill, sending that measure to the Senate by a narrow margin.
These voting restrictions are completely unnecessary; it is already illegal to cast a fraudulent ballot by impersonating a voter. Requiring a strict list of IDs to vote in federal elections is a blatant attempt to silence and divide us. It simply creates another barrier to voting.
Again and again, attempts to suppress voters ahead of the 2026 midterms, including these efforts and bills like the SAVE Act and the MEGA Act, have failed to earn support in Congress. This is largely because our lawmakers have heard the overwhelming grassroots support for voting rights from people like you. Now is not the time to let up!
We encourage you to TAKE ACTION. Tell your U.S. Representative and Senator that you oppose any attempt to undermine our voting rights. Tell them to VOTE NO on the Stop Insider Trading/Voter ID Act and on any budget package that includes funding to undermine our elections.
The work of the League is often a story of generational struggle and suffrage, but we refuse to turn back the clock on voting rights.
