Oppose Mayor Smiley's Tax Hike Proposal

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley is pushing for House Bill #5368 in order to bypass the city’s 4% cap on tax growth. This would give him the power to raise property taxes in Providence without limit!
If passed, it will:
- Make it harder for working families to afford a home
- Increase rents as some landlords pass on the rise in property taxes to tenants
- Accelerate gentrification by pushing more Providence residents out
Providence residents can’t afford higher property taxes. Speak up and take action against Mayor Smiley’s proposal by submitting a letter of opposition as noted above. You can also show up in-person to testify and oppose this bill on Tuesday, March 4th at the State House (Room 101) at 5pm.
