Oppose SB293
We must speak out against SB293 before it moves further through the Senate Judiciary Committee. This bill would create a new crime for being within 25 feet of a first responder if an officer claims a person is “impeding, threatening, or harassing” them. In practice, this could be used to push peaceful protesters, journalists, and everyday community members away from public spaces and prevent people from documenting police activity. Emailing Senate Judiciary now is critical to demand that lawmakers reject legislation that could criminalize observation, silence protest, and expand police discretion at the expense of our freedoms.
