Palantir Technologies offers an AI-powered data platform designed for the military, law enforcement, and any corporation willing to pay for it. This platform enables them to analyze your personal data, including social media profiles, personal information, and physical characteristics for identification and surveillance purposes.
They do it without your knowledge and with almost no transparency.
Now the Trump administration has made this a lot worse by requiring all agencies and departments of the federal government to share all the data they have on Americans with Palantir. That’s right, Palantir went from finding and collecting your data on their own to just having it all handed to them by the government.
They’re now busily combining personal data on every American gleaned from the Department of Homeland Security, Defense Department, Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, and Internal Revenue Service. They have access to so much more data than they ever could’ve gotten on their own, including bank account numbers and medical claims.
Despite being handed all this information, there’s still no transparency on how exactly it will be used. That might have been okay for a private business with private clients, but it’s definitely not okay for a private business working for the government.
Now, privacy advocates, student organizations, and labor rights groups have filed lawsuits to block this data access. And 10 Democrats, led by Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, sent their own letter demanding answers on how the information the Trump administration is providing will be used.
We need to back them up. Palantir needs to feel public pressure to answer questions.
