Tell your Councilmember: Don't Increase Fees for Housing In San Rafael
At its May 18, 2026, meeting, the San Rafael City Council will vote on proposed Parkland and Recreation Facility impact fees which would add yet another barrier to more housing in Marin County. These new fees would:
- Disproportionately increase the cost of smaller infill projects, making them infeasible
- Make multifamily projects pay 2x the impact fees for single-family homes
- Unfairly and illegally burden new projects with upgrading existing infrastructure
- Make new residents downtown and in Northgate pay for facilities elsewhere in San Rafael
The cost of building new housing in Marin County makes development challenging enough without adding excessive impact fees.
