Pass County Ceasefire Resolution 24-

Today marks 100 days since Israel began its assault on Gaza. In that time the death toll in Gaza has risen to nearly 24,000 people, 40 % of whom are children, as Israel unleashed more than 65,000 tons of bombs on the besieged enclave and its population of 2.3 million people trapped in less than 400 sq. kilometers.

There is no justification in international law for the targeting of civilians or the holding of civilian hostages.  As Israel’s bombardment on Gaza enters its fourth month, UN officials warn that the relentless assault has left Gaza uninhabitable. The death toll is increasing daily due to starvation, winter conditions, illness and lack of humanitarian aid. The collective punishment of a civilian population is against international law and we cannot allow innocent civilians in Gaza to be collateral damage in Israel’s bombings.

Israel now stands accused by South Africa of carrying out genocide in Gaza at the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the Netherlands.

The unthinkable becomes acceptable when we deny people their humanity. We must fight to bring this devastating violence to an immediate end.

County Commissioners: Join with the growing number of US cities and counties that are taking a stand against the US- backed genocide of Palestinians and immediately pass a Ceasefire Resolution!
