This summer, the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) is under some of its biggest threats yet. We need City Council members to be strong in keeping this popular fund focused on its climate justice intentions!

You may have heard Mayor Wilson suggest using PCEF to renovate the Moda Center. No specific plans have been released regarding where the money would come from or which PCEF projects would be cancelled to cover this expense. The information we’ve been given so far doesn’t give a strong enough case that PCEF should be used to fund the Moda Center. Instead, the current demands threaten to use public dollars to pay for a private project with no contribution from the Trailblazer’s billionaire owner.

All PCEF dollars are allocated to the City budget (at least $130 million annually) or community grants (about $60 million/year) through 2029. In this year's budget alone, over $200 million of PCEF funds are dedicated to climate, clean energy, and environmental justice in the City budget, so using PCEF for the Moda Center would requre reducing spending on City staff and programs.
