Perimeter Plan Written Testimony (Deadline 6/10!)
Why This Action Matters
We defeated 175-B, but the day we did the Speaker proposed a new bill that would still put kids and New Yorkers at risk. This new bill would require the NYPD to draw up a "perimeter plan" for protests at schools, with no opportunity for public input. It would hand more power and authority to the NYPD at a time where our right to protest is already being threatened.
Think of civil rights lunch-counter sit-ins to student walkouts across the decades. Educational institutions and students have long been part of the beating heart of the fight for justice. This bill would threaten that. And it would put at risk kids of color and immigrant students who are already at risk under Trump's regime.
All this despite the fact that there is no evidence that schools or educational facilities are being "harassed" or "threatened" by protestors.
It's time to pump the breaks. Submit your written testimony to call on Speaker Julie Menin and the City Council to rewrite the bill to demand transparency and require the NYPD to publish their existing plan and protocol for responding to protests at schools, NOT threaten kids for exercising their right to speak freely. Submit by June 10th, 2026 to make sure your testimony is recorded!
