Permanent Residency Now for All TPS Holders
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions in Trump v. Miot and Noem v. Doe undermined the rule of law by eliminating judicial review for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) terminations by the Department of Homeland Security. The court granted the administration unchecked authority to advance the largest de-documentation of legal immigrants in modern U.S. history. More than 1.3 million TPS holders and their families now face imminent detention, deportation, and the loss of work authorization.
TPS holders are our neighbors. They are workers, homeowners, parents, and healthcare professionals. Ending TPS destabilizes communities, separates families, and damages local economies that rely on their daily contributions. It is time for Congress to match their commitment to protecting constituent communities with lasting legislative protections.
The TPS Solidarity Committee calls on U.S. citizens to stand with TPS neighbors and demand immediate action from representatives. Congress must establish a pathway to permanent residency for all TPS holders. Both the House and Senate currently have active legislation to achieve this goal.
In the House, HR 1589, the Dream and Promise Act sponsored by Rep. Sylvia Garcia, provides a pathway to permanent residency for TPS holders and those with DACA or DED status. Rep. Garcia recently launched a discharge petition effort; with 217 co-sponsors, the bill is only one vote away from a floor vote.
In the Senate, S. 2106, the SECURE Act sponsored by Sen. Van Hollen, offers a similar pathway to permanent residency. The bill currently has 35 cosponsors in the Senate.
