Please Help Support S. 644, the Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act
The Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act (MOTAA) is a bipartisan bill that would allow physicians licensed in addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry to prescribe methadone outside of Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs - a/k/a/ Methadone Clinics) walls and dispense it in community pharmacies. OTPs can be difficult to access for many people, particularly those in rural regions, for individuals with limited access to transportation, atypical work hours, and for people in regions with few or no programs. Additionally, many OTPs are for-profit organizations and can be expensive.
Methadone is another harm reduction tool that should be widely available to all people who need it, including having it offered in primary care offices as it is done in other countries around the world. Passing MOTAA is a necessary first step to expanding access. The Senate HELP Committee. of which Senator Kaine is a member, is considering approving this legislation in the next few weeks.
Please help us by signing this letter to Sen. Kaine.
Thanks as always for your support!
