Please keep CCA funding for climate!

Governor Ferguson has proposed diverting $569 million from Climate Commitment Act funds for other non-climate programs, and Senate and House proposed budgets have basically gone along with that diversion. But climate change is here now, and CCA investments are making a critical difference by increasing resilience, expanding clean transportation options, cutting emissions, and adding jobs for clean energy development. And applications for CCA project funding already overrun capacity.

Meanwhile, federal funding for clean energy infrastructure has been slashed, while electricity demand in Washington is projected to nearly double by 2050. Meeting this demand will require rapid deployment of new clean energy sources and upgrading infrastructure—not only to achieve the state’s ambitious climate targets but also to keep energy affordable and support rural economies.

As people of faith and conscience, we care deeply about the earth and vulnerable communities impacted by climate change. Please personalize and sign this letter asking our legislators to reduce the CCA diversion in the budget and commit in the budget language to repaying the diverted funds by 2029 as envisioned in the House budget proposal.
