It is well known that the work of Peer Recovery Specialists are the most effective and most cost-efficient means to launch people with Substance Use and Mental Health issues on a lifelong journey of recovery.*

Virginia’s Medicaid reimbursement rate of $26/hour means that no CSB or other entity can afford to hire full-time Peer Specialists, pay them a competitive wage with benefits, and not lose money doing so.

I ask that you support budget amendment 304 #2s to raise the rate to $78/hour so the services of Peer Specialists can respond to the critical need as overdose and suicide rates soar in Virginia.
