Please Urge Your Legislators to Take Action to Address the K-12 Fiscal Crisis

Public school districts across the Commonwealth are facing severe fiscal challenges that threaten to undermine their capacity to deliver a high-quality public education to all students. While the Student Opportunity Act has provided meaningful investments in many communities, not every district has seen significant increases in state aid under the law. In addition, a combination of factors, including technical issues with the Chapter 70 formula, high inflation and escalating costs have further strained local budgets. Since the specific fiscal challenges often vary between districts, it will take a combination of solutions to ensure that every district has the resources that students and educators need to succeed.
That is why the MTA is advocating for a comprehensive legislative and budget platform that will help address the main drivers of the public school fiscal crisis in every corner of the Commonwealth. Please click here to review the specific MTA-backed proposals and learn how much additional funding your school district could receive under the MTA’s fiscal crisis agenda.
We need you to write to your legislators right away to ask them to cosponsor and actively support the MTA’s agenda to address the fiscal crisis in public education and urge legislative leadership to ensure that the FY26 state budget begin to address the funding needs of our public schools. Please also be sure to tell them how the fiscal crisis is impacting your school and share how much additional funding your district could receive under the MTA’s fiscal crisis agenda.
