Please tell our State Senators to vote YES on SB127 for more counselors and specialized support staff in our public schools.

A recent analysis of Virginia’s public schools showed there is a surprisingly inadequate number of counselors and specialized student support positions in our public schools.

SB127 would increase the specialized support staff to student ratio recommended by the JLARC* report. the legislature would be following the JLARC recommendations.

*The 2023 Joint Legislative and Audit Review Commission (JLARC) report Virginia’s K-12 Funding Formula found that the current funding formula needs to be revised and that it currently dramatically underestimates staffing needs. JLARC reported that “many school division administrators characterized the state’s staffing standards as unrealistic” and JLARC recommended that the specialized support staff to student ratio should be improved.
