Following Monday's announcement of 2,000 acres the DNR is designating for conservation, The Power Plant timber sale was canceled! While this is great news for Clallam County, there is still advocacy to be done to protect mature forests from being clear cut in the Elwha watershed, including the sale “TCB23.”
That’s why we need you to write to Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz (cc the other members on the Board of Natural Resources) expressing your gratitude for Power Plant being canceled, and asking Commissioner Franz to continue to work on solutions that will protect all mature forest in the Elwha watershed. If DNR approves the City of Port Angeles’ Elwha Watershed Protection proposal under the Trusts Land Transfer program, it would protect and restore approximately 3,000 acres of forestland in the Elwha River watershed.
