Tell Congress to prevent sexual violence against migrants!
We must prevent sexual violence by ICE, CBP, and immigration detention staff!
People in immigration custody are extremely vulnerable. They are locked up, often far from family, and afraid that speaking up could get them deported. Yet the offices meant to oversee detention have been sharply cut back, and a federal inspection found staff were unsure which safety standards to follow. Further, because of inadequate data collection, we do not know how much sexual violence is happening in detainment.
Congress must act. We need laws that keep abusers out of these jobs, limit invasive searches, protect people who report abuse, and require independent investigations. As long as ICE and CBP continue to sexually assault migrants, they should not receive more of our tax dollars! Tell your representative to take action now.
