Protect 2025–27 Budget Wins
As we await Governor Ferguson's signature on the final bills of the legislative session, join FAN in sending a clear message about these priorities:
🏛️ Protect 2025-2027 Budget Wins
Our legislators worked painstakingly on the budget this session to balance new revenue and limit cuts to vital services. But before signing the bill, Governor Ferguson has promised to meticulously examine the budget for potential further cuts. We are calling on the Governor to sustain the following investments that promote the well-being of all Washingtonians:
- $605 million for the Housing Trust Fund – the largest in state history
- $93 million for food banks and $27 million for senior nutrition
- $153 million for Apple Health Expansion, maintaining current immigrant health coverage
- $25 million for the Migrant and Asylum Seeker Support Program
- $18 million for immigration legal services
- $3 million for SNAP fruit & vegetable incentives
- $17 million for school meal expansion
- $130 million in grants to expand capacity for behavioral health care in community settings
🙏 Faith Communities Cannot Fill the Gap Alone
During budget negotiations, Governor Ferguson suggested that faith-based communities could step in if funding for food assistance was cut. But these communities are already doing their part for food security and we know that food bank usage continues to surge. According to the USDA, nearly 1 in 10 Washington households are food insecure. The most recent WAFOOD survey paints an even more urgent picture for low-income residents:
- 55% of low-income households reported food insecurity.
- 68% of households with children were food insecure.
- 79% of Black and 74% of Native respondents reported food insecurity.
We must let Governor Ferguson know that faith communities cannot absorb the consequences of public disinvestment.
