Protect Leoni Township: Stop Rezoning for Heavy Industry
The Leoni Township Board is considering a proposal to rezone the former Pine Hollow golf course property for heavy industrial use. This site is surrounded by wildlife sanctuaries, designated wetlands, family neighborhoods, and several lakes. Rezoning for heavy industry could threaten local water quality, destroy habitat, and harm the health and safety of nearby residents.
The company pursuing the land plans to resell it for unspecified industrial purposes and has already listed the property on its website, even though it has not been sold or rezoned. When asked what type of operations might occur there, representatives could not give a clear answer and only stated that it would “create jobs.”
The effects of this decision would extend beyond Leoni Township. Pollution, traffic, and water impacts would reach neighboring communities and affect the long-term environmental health of Jackson County. Our county’s sustainability should come before short-term revenue or temporary jobs.
Tell the Leoni Township Board to reject this rezoning proposal until there is a transparent plan that protects our environment, neighborhoods, and the future of our county.
