PROTECT Massachusetts Communities from ICE

On Wednesday, March 25, the Massachusetts House will be voting on the PROTECT Act, which would limit collaboration between state and local law enforcement and ICE, protect access to our courts, strengthen the rights for individuals in ICE detention, and additional steps.

State representatives have two responsibilities: (1) to reject any harmful, xenophobic amendments that will negate the protections of the bill and (2) to clarify language in the bill to eliminate loopholes.

To do the former, legislators must reject 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12.

To do the latter, legislators must adopt #4 (Clarification that state or local resources may not be used for federal civil immigration enforcement) and #10 (Clarifying definition of sheriff duties).
