The California Values Act would create the most powerful protections for undocumented immigrants in the country. It would prohibit state and local law enforcement from acting as federal immigration officers and bans immigration enforcement at public schools, hospitals and courthouses. It also requires state agencies to update their confidentiality policies so that immigration status information is not shared for enforcement purposes.

Californians want laws that invest in the safety and well being of everyone. Right now, Police and Sheriff departments are actively pressuring our leaders in Sacramento to kill this law, and are proposing amendments to strip the bill from the strong protections our communities need. Our leaders vowed to protect all Californians, and they must hear from us now and follow through on their promises.

Trump’s deportation machine is in full effect, and every day that passes our families and neighbors are at risk from deportation. Our police and sheriffs must be focused on protecting our communities instead of doing Trump’s dirty work. And we must continue to stand up for every person in our state.
