Protect Our Neighbors from Burma (Myanmar)

Recent remarks by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem about the situation in Burma (Myanmar) and the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for its nationals living legally in the U.S. are deeply troubling. Secretary Noem claimed that conditions in Burma have “improved” and that the junta’s upcoming elections are “free and fair.” She praised the military regime and even thanked China, Burma’s chief military backer, for so-called “ceasefire pressure.”

These statements are not only inaccurate, they contradict verified reports of ongoing atrocities, forced displacement, religious persecution, and targeted violence. They also run counter to official U.S. Government positions, including statements from the U.S. Mission to the UN, bipartisan leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the extensive evidence provided by more than 150 organizations, including the American Baptist Churches USA Burma Advocacy Group.

This is a moment that calls for collective public action.

Please urge your Members of Congress to press DHS to correct its factual justification and rescind the termination of Burma TPS.

The evidence is clear: conditions in Burma remain unsafe, and terminating TPS will cause immense humanitarian harm. DHS must either reinstate TPS or transfer affected individuals to Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) before the 60-day deadline.
