Protect PEPFAR & Protect CDC’s Global Health Work!

The President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), launched in 2003 by President George W. Bush, is one of the most successful global health programs in history. Yet PEPFAR is under threat from the Trump Administration – this Administration has already undermined the program by dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and refusing to spend all appropriated PEPFAR funds on time. Now, the U.S. State Department has released guidance that would eliminate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a major PEPFAR implementer.

PEPFAR’s track record is extraordinary: 26 million lives saved, 20.6 million people on HIV treatment, and 7.8 million babies born HIV-free. CDC’s PEPFAR platforms – staff, laboratories and disease surveillance – also support outbreak response like for Ebola and Hantavirus and keep Americans safe.

Please write to your members of Congress today and ask them to safeguard CDC funding for PEPFAR implementation. CDC’s global health work is critical to save lives and keep Americans safe.
