Protect the Ohio River and Nearby NKY Streams and Wetlands

Tell the Ohio EPA to protect the Ohio River and say no to highway expansion today!

ODOT is urging the Ohio EPA to green-light water degradation in the Ohio river in favor of a highway expansion.

The Ohio EPA has published a notice that they have begun to consider ODOT's application to further pollute the Ohio River and nearby NKY and southern Ohio streams and wetlands during the proposed Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project, which adds a second bridge with up to 10 lanes of added car traffic. The project threatens this vital waterway with increased pollution, sedimentation, and habitat disruption. Construction of a new bridge would release harmful contaminants into the river, while the expanded infrastructure would increase long-term pollution from road runoff.

ODOT plans to:

  • Destroy 1,500'+ of NKY streams
  • Destroy 4+ acres of NKY wetlands
  • Build a causeway in the river that will remain for 6 years or more.

Tell the Ohio EPA that water quality cannot be sacrificed for interstate expansion. Transportation projects cannot come at the cost of environmental degradation. The EPA must either deny this certification or require much stricter environmental protections. Ohio EPA will continue to accept written comments on the application through the close of business on February 5, 2025.

OH EPA will also be holding a virtual public hearing on January 29th, 2025 from 4pm - 5pm EST. Click here to register and speak at the meeting.

Send an email today to ask OH EPA to deny ODOT's request to degrade the Ohio River Water Quality.
