Protect the Truth-Tellers at VA Support the VA Whistleblower Empowerment Act of 2025

When VA employees are pressured to alter data or punished for telling the truth, everyone loses — veterans, taxpayers, and staff.

The VA Whistleblower Empowerment Act of 2025 ensures that employees who refuse to falsify reports or expose data manipulation are protected, heard, and supported.

This bill strengthens whistleblower protections, creates an independent OIG Data Integrity Ombudsman, and mandates oversight by GAO — because integrity only survives when truth-tellers are safe.


Protects truth-tellers: Ensures immediate reinstatement, back pay, and legal protection for employees who report data falsification or retaliation.



Prevents coercion: Makes it illegal to pressure or threaten employees to alter reports or performance data.



Creates independent oversight: Establishes a Data Integrity Ombudsman within the VA OIG to protect confidentiality and investigate retaliation.



Adds accountability: Requires GAO to review retaliation claims every two years and publish findings publicly.



Builds trust: Protecting those who speak up is the foundation for accurate reporting, safer care, and better decisions for veterans.
