Protect Trans South Carolinians: NO to S.162
S.162 is a direct attack on the trans community, making it impossible to legally change their gender on their IDs (identity documents) outside of restrictive scenarios. This bill would make life harder and less safe for trans South Carolinians, forcing identity documents to be mismatched and not reflect their gender identity. This bill also harms intersex people by placing a restrictive 12-month-since-birth timeline to make decisions and changes.
S.162 does not solve a real problem or reflect reality. It creates new ones by denying people accurate identity documents, singling out transgender and intersex people, and making daily life harder and less safe for South Carolinians.
Write a letter today to tell the SC Senate Medical Affairs Committee to vote NO to S.162.
