Protect Working Families from Corporate Price-Gouging & Surveillance Rally

Call on the City Council to Pass the Fair Pricing and Transparency Ordinance

The Fair Pricing and Transparency ordinance protects workers and shoppers. We need the Seattle City Council to pass this bill on September 22, 2026: as it was passed out of committee WITHOUT ANY CORPORATE AMENDMENTS.

Grocery prices are climbing out of control, to the point where people are literally going into credit card debt to purchase food. Working families are struggling to meet essential needs like housing, healthcare and food. Nearly 2/3rds of LGBTQIA+ people have already sacrificed healthcare or food just in order to stay housed. Corporate grocery chains want to push new surveillance technology that tracks consumers and enables price-gouging. A May 2026 Consumer Reports investigation found that this practice could add $1,200 more per year to an average Seattle family’s grocery bill.

As the Trump administration cuts SNAP benefits, and food banks struggle to meet needs (including people's need to stay safe by ordering groceries online), we need to act now to protect people's access to good, healthy, affordable food.

ACTIONS: 1) Please send a letter here AND 2) Join us Tuesday, September 22 at 2pm at City Hall when the city council will vote on the bill. We need you to show up in solidarity. There will be public comment time so folks can testify to ban surveillance pricing and keep groceries affordable for Seattle families.

Please contact Gabriela Quintana, gquintana@ufcw3000.org if you have any questions, and/or be involved in the campaign.

Thank you for standing with consumers and workers!
