PROTECT YELLOWSTONE'S WOLVES BEYOND THE PARK

Yellowstone's wolves don't recognize park boundaries.

Inside Yellowstone National Park, wolves are protected. But when they naturally cross the park's invisible boundaries into Wyoming, they can become vulnerable to legal hunting.

This year, northwest Wyoming's wolf population has fallen significantly, prompting the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to reduce the number of available wolf hunting licenses for the 2026 season to just 22.

But 22 licenses are still 22 opportunities to kill wolves.

Yellowstone wolves—including wolves like 1090F—can still be put at risk simply by moving beyond the park boundary.

These wolves are part of Yellowstone's ecosystem. Their survival should not depend on which side of an invisible line they happen to be standing on.

OUR IMMEDIATE DEMAND: CREATE A NO-HUNT BUFFER AROUND YELLOWSTONE

We are calling on the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to:

• Establish a permanent no-hunt buffer zone around Yellowstone National Park to protect park wolves that naturally cross its boundaries.

• End recreational wolf hunting in northwest Wyoming, rather than allowing hunting to resume as populations fluctuate.

• Work with Yellowstone National Park, wildlife biologists, and other partners to adopt science-based management that minimizes human-caused mortality of wolves primarily living within the park.

Yellowstone itself has recognized the challenges of managing wolves across political boundaries and has identified strategies to reduce hunting impacts on Yellowstone's packs.

But ultimately, Women for Wolves does not believe wolves should have to be hunted at all.

A buffer zone is an urgent and achievable protection for wolves leaving Yellowstone—but it should be a floor, not a ceiling.

TAKE ACTION

Send a letter to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission and demand a no-hunt buffer around Yellowstone National Park and an end to recreational wolf hunting in northwest Wyoming.

Crossing an invisible boundary should never cost a Yellowstone wolf their life.

Protect Yellowstone wolves beyond the park. End the hunt.
