Protecting our Fair Share Wins

With the release of the Governor's proposal and the House's budget in preparation, it's time to blitz the legislature for key co-sponsorships!

The Governor has helped preserve Fair Share itself, adding no exemptions, and protecting it from being used for calculations of 62F tax rebates. On the other side, the Governor has offered a significantly more costly and regressive version of estate tax reform than we proposed.

Her proposal will cost almost a billion dollars in permanent revenue losses, equal to a large part of the revenue voters approved through the Fair Share Amendment for new investments in education and transportation. We need to prevent further losses to Fair Share, as well as state revenues for housing, health care and human services, from giveaways to the ultrarich!

Therefore, we are prioritizing the following TWO bills for maximal co-sponsor support ahead of the budget process in the legislature:
  • HD.2310/SD.1167 - An Act to preventing high-income tax avoidance (married couple filing status)
  • HD.1465/SD.1114 - An Act relative to estate tax reform (protecting only more modest estates)
