Raise your Voice for Early Childhood Mental Health Services
Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation is a state-funded program that keeps parents in the workforce and helps children learn in their child care and preschool classrooms. Funding for this program is at risk in the state budget, and we need your help to advocate!
Mental Health Consultation connects child care providers with an early childhood mental health professional to help them understand and address challenging behavior in the classroom. This prevents children from being expelled from child care or preschool, and prevents parental job disruption. Nationally, Pre-K students are expelled at 3.2 times the rate of children K-12 combined!
Last October, Michigan’s Legislature and Governor cut funding for Mental Health Consultation in half, from $3 million to $1.5 million. MDHHS was able to cover the difference. They may not be able to this year, as federal funding cuts strain Michigan’s budget.
