Reclaim the National Guard for Peace + Survival

“I imagine you might not want [this president] to have unchecked power over sending our troops into war without an act of Congress.” – former Maine Sen. Eric Brakey

The White House is flagrantly violating the U.S. Constitution, which assigns war-making and appropriations powers to Congress, not the president. With Congress largely abdicating its responsibility, Action Corps and groups across the political spectrum are looking to state legislatures as a place to build resistance.

Action Corps, a nonpartisan organization, knows how to strategically mobilize people to reclaim their power and win campaigns for justice. We know from our advocacy experience that collective action can create policy change -– as we experienced with stopping the U.S. and Saudi bombing of Yemen, and securing the release of hundreds of billions of dollars in resources for developing countries.

Let’s reclaim your state's National Guard and prevent deployment to combat that Congress hasn't authorized.

Defend the Guard legislation prohibits the deployment of the National Guard to foreign combat in the absence of congressional authorization, allowing your state to stand up where Congress has failed. The bill, once it becomes law, prohibits the president, who has expanded unauthorized wars, from sending our National Guard into conflicts without approval. This bill has been introduced in a majority of U.S. state legislatures. This is about restoring checks and balances, ending executive overreach, and making sure everyday people, not presidents acting unilaterally, decide when we go to war.

By keeping the National Guard at home unless war is lawfully authorized, we reduce the chances of being dragged into more costly, destructive wars like those Trump threatened and fueled. That means we can redirect energy and resources toward tackling global poverty, humanitarian crises, and climate challenges instead of fueling endless war. This is a critical moment for us to organize, and with your support, this is a winnable campaign.
