Reject David LaCerte
Our climate and communities have become targets in the War for fossil fuel dominance. And Donald Trump has once again nominated David LaCerte to lead his efforts at FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
In case you missed our alerts when LaCerte was first nominated, he worked as an official in Trump's U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where he helped to fire thousands of federal workers, withhold funds legally appropriated by Congress, and a commited a variety of other policy violence. Before Trump's return to power, he was the Louisiana Veterans Affairs Secretary, until he was accused by state investigators of mismanaging the agency and embellishing his own military service credentials. He resigned under a cloud of scandal and later tried to sue (unsuccessfully, so far) his accusers.
Since he was confirmed to FERC last year, Commissioner LaCerte has been an even bigger disaster. At the February 19 FERC Commissioners' meeting he said: “Our current clean water regime is not working, while state input on environmental resources is important, and we should always be a part of the conversation—a State wielding a Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certification is not a weapon to block desperately needed infrastructure”. And “We’re not going to allow ourselves to waste bandwidth on side quests outside our jurisdiction, greenhouse gases, endangerment findings, carbon footprints ... any non-jurisdictional matter, it saps our bandwidth and it’s counter-productive.”
We don’t want weapons and war. And we don't think the climate crisis is a side quest. We just want clean air and water, affordable electricity, and a stable regulatory environment which does not attack renewable energy.
Send a message to your Senators telling them: we don't need energy dominance by the fossil fuel industry. It comes at too high a cost, and at all cost! Enter your info on the right and get matched to your Senators so you can tell them to please vote no on the renomination of David LaCerte.
