Removal of Scope Restriction for Behavior Analysts

We are facing a crisis in New York
We have the lowest number of behavior analysts per 100 individuals with autism in the Northeast and our recruitment of new behavior analysts is at a much lower rate than the rest of the country.
This is directly tied to the limitation on the scope of practice of behavior analysts in New York. We are losing behavior analysts to nearby states that do not limit the scope. Since behavior analysts are leaving New York, we are not able to even effectively serve persons with autism, for whom this license was originally supposed to help.
New York is the only State that limits access to ABA to individuals who have autism.
Individuals who do not have a diagnosis of autism, cannot access ABA unless they are in a school or a state run facility (i.e. a residential setting). If a child without autism has exposure to ABA interventions that work at school, they cannot access those same interventions at their home.
What can you do?
You can email your Assembly and Senate representatives with just a few clicks! We have crafted a template letter for you to use. Please feel free to add your personal story to the letter. Are you a parent who cannot access ABA providers? Does your child get ABA at school, but not at home? Are you a graduate student who has difficulty finding the right experience? Whatever your reason is, we desperately need your help to save the practice of Behavior Analysis in New York!
