No one in the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, or anywhere in Pennsylvania, should have to lose health coverage because Congress failed to make health care affordable or protect the programs families depend on.

At the beginning of 2026 Open Enrollment, 28,429 people in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District were enrolled in health coverage through Pennie. By March 24, 8,501 had already terminated their coverage — 30% of the district’s starting enrollment.

Since then, the health care affordability crisis has only deepened. Pennie now reports that, as of September 1, nearly 202,000 Pennsylvanians have canceled coverage. The enhanced federal premium tax credits expired at the end of 2025, and Pennie enrollees saw their costs double on average in 2026. Increased costs are the leading reason people are canceling coverage. In Mackenzie’s district, Pennie enrollees have faced some of the steepest premium increases in Pennsylvania: average monthly premiums increased by $330 in Lehigh County, $317 in Northampton County, and $303 in Carbon County, according to Pennie data.

And the pain does not stop there. H.R. 1 — the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — enacted sweeping Medicaid cuts and changes that threaten coverage and health care providers across Pennsylvania. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie voted YES on the original House version of H.R. 1 on May 22, 2025, when it passed by just one vote, 215–214. He voted YES again on July 3, 2025, when the House approved the Senate-amended final bill and sent it to the President to become law.

The Commonwealth estimates that 17,519 people in PA-07 could lose Medicaid coverage as the law is implemented.

Local hospitals are at risk too. St. Luke's Easton Campus and St. Luke's Sacred Heart Campus are among 47 Pennsylvania hospitals identified as having moderate to significant risk factors for closure due to Medicaid cuts. PHAN estimates that the federal health care changes could increase uncompensated care for PA-07 hospitals by approximately $39 million each year. Want to learn more? Mackenzie’s record matters because he had two opportunities to oppose H.R. 1’s harmful health care provisions — and voted YES both times. His first vote helped the bill pass the House by a single vote. His second helped send the final legislation to the President’s desk, putting its Medicaid cuts into law.

After the enhanced premium tax credits expired, Mackenzie did join a bipartisan House majority in January 2026 to pass a clean three-year extension. But that measure never became law, and it did nothing to reverse the Medicaid cuts Mackenzie had already voted twice to enact through H.R. 1.

Congress can still act. Lawmakers can restore enhanced premium tax credits that helped families afford Pennie coverage, reverse harmful Medicaid cuts, and protect the hospitals and health care providers that communities rely on.

Tell Rep. Mackenzie to:

• Restore the enhanced premium tax credits keep fighting until an affordability solution becomes law, so families across the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos can afford Pennie coverage again.
• Reverse or stop the harmful Medicaid cuts he voted for before they push thousands of PA-07 residents off their health insurance and increase pressure on local providers.
• Protect PA-07 families from further federal health care cuts and oppose legislation that makes coverage less affordable or shifts health care costs onto Pennsylvania families, hospitals, and the Commonwealth. .

These steps would lower health insurance costs for Pennsylvania families, help prevent even more people from becoming uninsured, and reduce growing financial pressure on hospitals, state budgets, and health care providers across the Commonwealth.
