Request for Congressional Oversight Regarding USCIS Adjudication Holds Affecting Iranian Graduate Students at the University of Delaware

Our fellow Iranian graduate students are facing interruptions to their academic programs as well as their research. Their applications for Optional Practical Training (OPT), H-1B, change of status, and all other types of benefits are facing an indefinite pause after they have spent years here and fulfilled all requirements to maintain lawful presence in the United States. The families of our Iranian graduate students will imminently be at risk of separation, with spouses unable to finalize permanent residency and children aging out of eligibility. Additionally, due to both these policy memos and the current conflict in Iran, our Iranian graduate students cannot even safely visit their families. Graduating students will be unable to pursue their post-graduate prospects in the United States, and, in turn, these employers will be unable to secure these key personnel for their projects. Most importantly, our fellow graduate students will be left unable to adequately plan their futures, imposing unfair and unnecessary stressors on them at a critical point in their graduate career.
