Request the Mayor Fully Fund Castro CBD JWP and Castro Cares Grants

We need these grants fully funded.

Jane Warner Plaza is the front door to the Castro. The CBD depends on a city grant to ensure Jane Warner Plaza is welcoming to local residents and visitors from across the globe. Without the Jane Warner Plaza grant, Jane Warner Plaza will go from a welcoming entrance to the Castro to a wasteland of pigeon poop, people waste, dirt and grime. No more tables and chair--just blight.

Castro Cares: The number of unhoused and highly agitated people is on the rise in the Castro. Daily counts of unhoused now average around 20-30 people. A year ago the daily counts averaged under 10. The city grant funded Castro Cares program is very aware of this increase and over the past 7 months has engaged with 7,402 unhoused individuals. The Castro CBD's Castro Cares Ambassadors engage with unhoused individuals every day by offering referrals, a simple chat, de-escalation, or request folks clean up around themselves and move along. Without the Ambassadors, residents and business owners will have to walk around and/or move 20-30 street people every day as they walk their dogs, go into their shops, or grab a bite to eat. Now is not the time to cut grant funding that helps the Castro feel welcoming and safe.

The Castro needs these two grants to be fully funded.
