REQUIRE SMOG CHECKS FOR TRUCKS: STOP DIESEL AIR POLLUTION (SB 210)
SB 210 authorizes CARB (California Air Resources Board) to develop and implement a heavy-duty truck inspection and maintenance program, similar to Smog Check for cars and pick-up trucks.
Help us pass SB 210 to require trucks to pass smog tests.
This is a priority climate bill as the California Legislature comes to an end September 12.
Why: SB 210 is a very important measure that is good for our air, climate and health.
- SB 210 would improve air quality and public health in communities choked by smog, which are disproportionately low-income communities.
- Heavy duty vehicles produce more NOx and almost five times the particulate matter than all other on-road vehicles
- Diesel trucks account for 45% of the oxides of nitrogen emissions that react in the atmosphere to form smog and fine particulate matter, which accelerate climate change.
- Create a level playing field for truckers who maintain their vehicles, and must compete with cheaper operators who do not.
