Support Resolution 1: No Union Funds for illegal Occupation of Palestine
BCNU regional meetings are happening now, and member delegates will be deciding which motions to support at our Convention. That means the window to influence this decision is right now.
Resolution 1 would direct union funds away from companies identified by the UN as profiting from the illegal occupation of Palestine. Whether it passes could be decided in a matter of weeks — and leadership needs to hear from members like you before then.
Send a message today telling BCNU leadership you support this motion.
Every letter counts. The more members who speak up, the stronger the signal to leadership — and the better the chance this motion passes at Convention.
Want to understand why this motion matters? Read on below.
Stands with healthcare workers: Over 1700 health worker colleagues have been killed and almost the entire healthcare system has been destroyed in Gaza since 2023. Despite this, our colleagues continue to provide care to their patients, often without pay. As nurses, we have a responsibility to stand in solidarity with colleagues facing unprecedented violence.
Builds on recent union work: The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) recently approved a BCNU member-led proposal to send $8,000 and a letter of solidarity to the Palestinian Nurses and Midwives Association for resilience and psychosocial supports. This proposal follows the CFNU's calls for an arms embargo on Israel and the recognition of a Palestinian State, the cancellation of free trade agreements with Israel, and an end to our government's support for Israeli apartheid in Palestine.
Also, in March 2026, BC Teachers Federation members passed a motion calling on their union to ensure they are not investing in the Illegal Occupation of Palestine.
Aligns union investments with nursing values: Nurses are guided by compassion, justice, and respect for human dignity. Union funds should not support companies linked to human rights violations.
Responds to UN findings: In 2025, the United Nations found that Israeli authorities are committing genocide in Gaza—and has affirmed that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal under international law.
Advances ethical and transparent investment: BCNU Council passed a member motion in February ensuring the union discloses which banks we invest with–we must ensure our investments are not tied to human rights abuses or projects like the Coastal GasLink Pipeline crossing unceded Wet'suwet'en Nation territory without consent.
