Restrict Glyphosate Use in Public Spaces
Children across England may be exposed to glyphosate in the very places meant to keep them safe. A recent study (Pesticide Action Network UK January 2026 - "PLAYING WITH POISON: Pesticide residues on children’s playgrounds") found residues of this widely used weedkiller — and its toxic breakdown product — in eight out of thirteen playgrounds tested. The contamination likely comes from routine spraying by councils in parks, pavements and public spaces.
The good news is that change is possible — and pressure from the public matters. With a parliamentary bill proposing to end pesticide use by public authorities and a national consultation on renewing glyphosate’s licence approaching, MPs have a real opportunity to act. By writing to your MP today, you can help push for safer, pesticide-free public spaces for children, wildlife and our communities.
