Revisions not good enough! Urge Chancellor, Chief Privacy officer and PEP Members to strengthen their privacy regulations now!
The DOE released slightly revised Chancellors regulations to be voted on Nov. 20, yet they do not sufficiently student privacy. Please send a letter today to the Chancellor, the DOE Chief privacy officer and the members of the Panel for Educational Policy, urging them to strengthen them by entering your information to the right.
These proposed revisions would still allow the DOE and schools to share the names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, and birth dates of students with anyone they please, and with no restrictions except an unreliable parent opt out method. They would also weaken the protections for student medical and health records maintained by schools.
The letter urges the DOE to significantly strengthen these regs so that they are aligned with state law and protect student privacy. A letter we sent earlier that details the weaknesses in the regs is posted here.
