Safeguard Queensbury Tunnel (and our greenway vision) in the LTP!

Please help save our vision for a new greenway, suitable for all ages and abilities, connecting communities between Bradford, Keighley and Halifax in West Yorkshire. It is under threat because National Highways has managed to hoodwink the Labour government into agreeing to block up Queensbury Tunnel, a 1.4-mile-long Victorian railway tunnel, thereby destroying all possible hope of keeping it open for our greenway vision.
The Queensbury Tunnel Society has been campaigning to protect the tunnel and for the creation of this greenway for over a decade now. We have strong political backing but we need to make sure that local politicians remain firm in their commitment.
Therefore, we are asking you to write to the Mayor with this short response to the Local Transport Plan consultation currently being run by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), open until 21st October. If we can get hundreds of people to demand that Queensbury Tunnel and our greenway are listed as important components of the Local Transport Plan, this will show how important it is and strengthen our hand resisting the tunnel’s blocking up.
Just put your name, address and email in the ‘Take Action’ panel, then click the ‘Start Writing’ button to write to the Mayor and copied to the consultation. You can edit the suggested text to say whatever you feel is appropriate. When you’re ready, hit ‘Send Letter’. The whole process can take less a minute.
Many thanks,
Norah,
Leader, Queensbury Tunnel Society
PS – anyone who lives or works in West Yorkshire, or is a regular visitor, can take part.
PPS – If you prefer to respond to the consultation using WYCA’s summary questionnaire, you can mention the need to safeguard the tunnel in Q12. If you prefer the full questionnaire you can mention it in Q10. Both questionnaires have other opportunities to raise your concerns about Queensbury Tunnel.
